[BRIEFING.COM] The S&P 500 currently trades higher by 0.4% and is within 0.8% from its all-time high of 2940.91. The Dow is up 0.2%, although its four components that reported earnings trade mixed.
Dow components United Technologies (UTX 139.77, +2.86, +2.1%), Coca-Cola (KO 48.44, +1.04, +2.2%), Verizon (VZ 56.76, -1.61, -2.8%), and Procter & Gamble (PG 103.79, -2.22, -2.1%) reported better-than-expected earnings results. Shares of Verizon and Procter & Gamble, however, trade lower.
Verizon's results weren't as strong compared to those from United Tech and Coca-Cola's, which both beat top and bottom-line estimates. P&G has succumbed to some profit taking after climbing more than 17% since it last reported earnings.
Separately, fellow Dow component Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA 53.37, -0.73, -1.4%) announced it will require customers to be at least 21 years old in order to purchase tobacco products starting Sept. 1, 2019. The decision comes after the FDA put Walgreens "on notice" in February for allegedly selling tobacco to minors.
