Stocks open somewhat mixed
Dow +163.33 at 40703.06, Nasdaq -10.35 at 17359.85, S&P +8.12 at 5471.66

[BRIEFING.COM] The stock market opened to upside action, but moves are modest so far. The market-cap weighted S&P 500 shows a 0.1% gain and the equal-weighted S&P 500 shows a 0.5% gain. 

Mega caps are trading in mixed fashion and earnings news since yesterday's close has received mixed responses, limiting index performance. PayPal (PYPL 63.55, +4.60, +7.8%) is a winning standout after reporting earnings and Procter & Gamble (PG 160.05, -9.88, -5.9%) shares are sliding after its quarterly results. 

The S&P 500 sectors also reflect mixed action. The heavily-weighted financial sector leads the pack, up 1.2%, boosted by shares of PYPL. The consumer staples sector (-1.0%) shows the largest decline, clipped by shares of PG.

The Consumer Confidence Index jumped to 100.3 in July (Briefing.com consensus 99.8) from 97.8 in June (revised from 100.4). 

JOLTS Job Openings totaled 8.184 million in June following a revised count of 8.230 million in May (from 8.14 million).
