[BRIEFING.COM] Like yesterday, small and mid cap stocks have a slight performance edge over their larger peers. The Russell 2000 trades 2.0% higher and the S&P Mid Cap 400 shows a 1.6% gain.
The small cap index has benefitted from strength in the regional bank space and energy-related shares. Strength in these areas has also boosted the SPDR S&P Regional Banking ETF (KRE) and the S&P 500 energy sector (+1.1%).
In addition to the energy sector, the materials (+1.1%) and communication services (+1.0%) sectors trade up at least 1.0%.
