[BRIEFING.COM] The three major indices trade at or near session highs. The S&P 500 sports a 0.6% gain and the Russell 2000 outperforms, trading 1.0% higher.
The small cap index has been boosted by strength in its regional bank and energy components. Strength in these areas has also helped the SPDR Regional Banking ETF (KRE), which trades 1.5% higher, and the S&P 500 energy sector, which trades 1.1% higher.
Energy-related stocks are reacting to moves in the commodity market. WTI crude oil futures are up 1.4% to $71.10/bbl and natural gas futures are up 2.0% to $2.42/mmbtu.
