Stock Market Update

[BRIEFING.COM] The S&P 500 (+0.4%), Nasdaq Composite (+0.3%), and DJIA (+0.7%) all secured record closing highs this morning, pushing higher throughout the session amid broad strength.

Meanwhile, the Russell 2000 (+1.5%) and S&P Mid Cap 400 (+0.7%) are outperforming today.

Advancers outpace decliners by a greater than 2-to-1 ratio on the NYSE and Nasdaq, reflecting the scope of today's advance. 

Eight S&P 500 sectors trade higher, with every component of the utilities sector (+1.8%) holding gains while managed care names push the health care sector (+1.2%) to a strong gain as well. 

The market has seen mixed strength from its mega-cap components so far, with weakness in several mega-cap names pushing the communication service (-0.5%) and consumer discretionary (-0.3%) sectors lower. 

The S&P 500 Equal Weighted Index (+0.7%) outperforms the market-weighted S&P 500 (+0.4%) as a result.
