[BRIEFING.COM] The S&P 500 (+0.6%) finally broke through to a new record high level, while the Nasdaq Composite (+0.9%) sits just beneath its own record high as the broader market trades in a stable range.
The information technology sector (+1.2%) continues to lead the advance, with strength in chipmakers pushing the PHLX Semiconductor Index 2.5% higher.
Meanwhile, the industrials sector (+1.0%) also holds a nice gain. Dow component Caterpillar (CAT 508.65, +21.94, +4.51%) is a notable standout, pushing further into record territory after yesterday's advance.
