Health care, energy sectors outperform
Dow -172.05 at 47196.37, Nasdaq -196.43 at 23330.76, S&P -22.14 at 6810.28

[BRIEFING.COM] A widening loss in the information technology sector (-1.2%) keeps the S&P 500 (-0.3%) and Nasdaq Composite (-0.7%) charting new session lows, while the DJIA (+0.4%) maintains its early advantage.

The health care sector (+1.2%) extended its advance today, lifting its month-to-date gain to 3.4%—second only to the energy sector (+1.4% today, +3.8% MTD) on both counts. While both sectors have been largely overlooked for much of the year, they've attracted renewed buying interest during quieter periods for the AI trade.

All but five of the health care sector's components hold gains for the day. While Dow component UnitedHealth (UNH 321.58, +0.00, +0.00%) puts up a flat performance so far, Amgen (AMGN 329.97, +6.31, +1.95%) and Johnson & Johnson (JNJ 190.32, +1.90, +1.01%) contribute to both the sector and the DJIA's outperformance.
