Mega-cap weakness limits index-level gains
Dow +400.43 at 48328.18, Nasdaq -70.04 at 23398.28, S&P +6.34 at 6852.94

[BRIEFING.COM] The S&P 500 (+0.1%), Nasdaq Composite (-0.3%), and DJIA (+0.8%) are mixed as sector strength is a nearly even split today.

Six S&P 500 sectors trade in negative territory despite solid breadth figures, with advancers outpacing decliners by a nearly 2-to-1 ratio on both the NYSE and the Nasdaq. The S&P 500 Equal Weighted Index (+0.5%) outperforms the market-weighted S&P 500 (+0.2%) as softness across the mega-caps limits index-level gains.

The information technology sector (-0.2%) is little changed following an announcement from Anthropic that the company will invest $50 billion in American AI infrastructure.

In Fed news, Atlanta Fed President Raphale Bostic (non-voting FOMC member) announced he will retire at the end of his current term, which concludes on February 28, 2026. The Atlanta Fed President will not be a voting FOMC seat in 2026 but will be again in 2027.
