[BRIEFING.COM] The S&P 500 (+0.5%) is defending a modest gain with five sectors trading higher.

The consumer discretionary sector (+0.7%) has been among the most volatile groups as the market tries to estimate the final impact of big changes in tariff policy. Today, the sector outperforms, but some of its components are caught between crosswinds as the news of the court tariff challenge fuels hope for some relief on the tariff front while Best Buy (BBY 64.71, -6.81, -9.6%) is the worst performer in the group after its Q1 beat was overshadowed by reduced guidance for FY26 due in part to a headwind from tariffs.

On the upside, Deckers Outdoor (DECK 107.65, +3.33, +3.2%) is the top performer, reversing some of its post-earnings weakness.
