Smaller-cap stocks outperform
Dow +26.53 at 44349.60, Nasdaq -99.38 at 20873.42, S&P -8.64 at 6296.96

[BRIEFING.COM] The DJIA (+0.1%) holds a slight gain while the S&P 500 (-0.1%) and Nasdaq Composite (-0.4%) track within a relatively tight range beneath their opening values.

The major indices got off to a sluggish start due to some profit taking in the information technology sector (-0.9%), with chipmakers especially pressured in the early going.

Mega-cap names as a whole are down today as a result, with the Vanguard Mega Cap Growth ETF showing a loss of 0.7%.

The broader marker is performing relatively well, all things considered.

While larger cap stocks outperformed their smaller counterparts yesterday, the opposite appears to be the case today. The Russell 2000 is up 0.5%, while the S&P Mid Cap 400 is up an even higher 0.8%.
