[BRIEFING.COM] The major averages are little changed from their previous levels as the session approaches midday.

The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday that Paramount Skydance (PSKY 17.96, +0.50, +2.86%) is preparing a majority cash bid to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD 18.30, +2.12, +13.14%), sending both stocks sharply higher.

However, Bloomberg reported this morning that such a deal would likely face intense regulatory scrutiny, casting doubt on the feasibility of the merger. The combination would significantly reduce competition in film and TV content production, triggering concerns from antitrust regulators—especially as it would consolidate control over multiple major cable and streaming properties.

Additionally, The New York Post reports that Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav is looking to court other tech giants in an effort to spark a bidding war for the company.
