Mega-cap tech names behind yesterday's push have given back some of their gains. The information technology (-0.5%) and consumer discretionary (-0.7%) sectors are the top laggards this morning, with losses in the market's largest components seating the Vanguard Mega Cap Growth ETF (-0.5%) with an early loss.
The energy sector (+1.8%) leads the seven advancing S&P 500 sectors, supported by an $0.88 increase in the price of oil to $63.16 per barrel, an increase of 1.4%.
The preliminary September S&P Global U.S. Manufacturing PMI registered at 52.0, from a prior level of 53.0.
The preliminary September S&P Global U.S. Services PMI registered at 53.9, from a prior level of 54.5.
