[BRIEFING.COM] The S&P 500 (flat) has encountered some round number resistance at the 6,700 level, coming within 0.5 points of the mark. The DJIA (+0.5%) continues to outperform, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite (-0.3%) lags.

Boeing (BA 219.08, +6.98, +3.29%) is the top mover in the DJIA after Bloomberg reported that Turkey plans to purchase hundreds of planes from the company.

Additionally, Bloomberg reported that Uzbekistan Airways will purchase as many as 22 of Boeing's 787 Dreamliner jets.

The industrial sector (+0.6%) holds a nice early gain, with another DJIA component, Caterpillar (CAT 481.44, +9.34, +1.98%), contributing to the advance.

The preliminary S&P Global US Services PMI dipped to 53.9 from the final reading of 54.5 for August. Both gauges remain above the 50.0 demarcation line for expansion and contraction, although activity in both cases decelerated slightly from August.
