Stock Market Update

[BRIEFING.COM] The major averages continue to plot new session lows, with only the Nasdaq Composite (-0.7% today, +0.5% week-to-date) maintaining a modest week-to-date gain. 

Only the real estate (+0.6%), consumer staples (+0.3%), and materials (+0.1%) hold on to modest gains, while several sectors face sizable losses.

After finishing among yesterday's top performers, the financials sector (-2.0%) is the top laggard today, now barely above its 50-day moving average. Today's loss now seats the sector as the second-worst performing S&P 500 sector this week, behind only the energy sector (-1.8%), which faces pressure from a $1.62 decrease in the price of oil to $61.86, a decrease of 2.5%.
