[BRIEFING.COM] The market remains near its session lows entering the final half hour, with selling still most pronounced in the Nasdaq Composite and Russell 2000. The S&P 500 needs a meaningful late rebound to avoid its second decline of at least 1.0% this week.
That would mark a notable shift after the index went 53 trading days without a 1.0% daily loss. Weakness has remained concentrated in mega-cap growth, semiconductor, and AI-related shares, while concerns about financing costs and future debt-service burdens have weighed on momentum stocks. The broader participation in the decline has also increased as the session has progressed.
Attention will turn to a busier Q3 reporting calendar next week. FactSet shows a blended earnings growth rate of 29.4% for the quarter for the S&P 500. A blended growth rate takes into account the actuals for companies that have reported and the estimates for companies that have not yet reported.
If achieved, that would mark the third straight quarter that earnings growth has exceeded 25%.
