Consumer staples sector lags
Dow -122.53 at 50457.17, Nasdaq +219.82 at 26584.79, S&P +34.83 at 7508.30

[BRIEFING.COM] The S&P 500 (+0.4%) and Nasdaq Composite (+0.8%) have given back some of their early gains as the information technology sector (+1.4%) retreats from its best levels of the session.

Meanwhile, the consumer staples sector (-1.3%) is among the worst-performers, with alcoholic beverage names such as Molson Coors Brewing (TAP 40.97, -1.58, -3.71%) and Constellation Brands (STZ 144.05, -5.45, -3.65%) lagging amid prolonged weakness.

With today's loss, the consumer staples sector is back in the red for the month (-1.6%), narrowing its 2026 gain to 8.4%.
