[BRIEFING.COM] The major averages are poised to end August on a lower note, but barring a massive late-session selloff, they will still finish the month with solid gains.
Semiconductor performance has been particularly choppy in August, and while the PHLX Semiconductor Index held a much wider gain earlier in the month, it is still up 1.7% for August. The index is up 0.3% late in today's action, helping the information technology sector (+0.1%) resurface above its flatline and keeping losses at the index level modest.
