[BRIEFING.COM] The debate surrounding the pace of AI development remains in focus as semiconductor stocks rally today following a volatile stretch for the group.

President Trump reiterated his support for continued AI development, saying the U.S. should maintain its lead over China and that his administration will "only encourage AI," while pointing to existing law-enforcement bodies as a potential check on risks. His comments follow recent calls from some AI industry leaders and researchers for a slower pace of development and additional safeguards.

NVIDIA (NVDA 225.07, +2.80, +1.26%) CEO Jensen Huang also pushed back against AI safety concerns in a weekend interview with CBS News, saying there is a "0% chance" AI will end the world by 2030 and arguing that development should continue rapidly while companies ensure products are safe before release.
