Dow -308.47 at 51555.22, Nasdaq -279.62 at 26985.70, S&P -43.29 at 7721.35

[BRIEFING.COM] After outperforming the S&P 500 (-0.6%) and Nasdaq Composite (-1.0%) early, the DJIA (-0.6%) now holds a similar loss for the day.

McDonald's (MCD 236.07, -14.28, -5.70%) is the worst-performing component in the 30-stock index, falling to a new 52-week low after detailing its McDonald's > NEXT strategy. The plan includes significant investments in restaurant upgrades and franchisee support alongside long-term targets for market share gains and improved efficiency. The size of those spending commitments and the extended timeline for the strategy's expected benefits appear to be weighing on shares, particularly as MCD continues to contend with slowing U.S. comparable sales and weaker traffic. Shares are now down more than 20% for the year.
